MV tech-beats Q&A

Winston from Shreveport, Louisiana wrote in to ask us, “Sometimes my apps just stop working. What do I do when this happens?”

Winston, when an app stops working we like to say that it is “corrupt”. You will know the app is “corrupt” if the app is still non-responsive or fragmented after you have tried every typical troubleshooting method.

The best thing for you to do when this happens is to delete the app completely and re-install it.

  • Press & hold one of the app icons on your screen.
  • The app icons will begin to shake.
  • An “X” will appear in the upper-left corner of the app icons.
  • Delete the “corrupt” app by pressing the “X” in the upper-left corner of the app icon.
  • A message will appear asking you if you are sure you want to delete; press “Confirm”.
  • Press the “Home” button to get the other apps to stop shaking.
  • Most Androids

  • Go to “Settings” (look for a gear icon) menu.
  • Click on “Apps” or “Application manager”.
  • Touch the app you’d like to uninstall & select “Uninstall”.
  • Note: If you don’t see the “Uninstall” button, or if you only see the option to “Uninstall updates,” then the selected app cannot be removed from your device.
  • Important Facts

  • You need to be somewhere with good connectivity.
  • None of your historic work is deleted when you delete the app.
  • If you are on an iOS device, you need to have access to the app store and to your iTunes password.
  • If you purchased an app you can always uninstall and reinstall it at a later date.

iBeacons & Bluetooth Low Energy Beacons in Retail

iBeacons and Bluetooth Low Energy Beacons have to ability to track the geo-position of a device indoors. This means retailers can determine exactly where a device-holding customer is within a store; they can even tell which shelf customers are looking at!

Through Beacons retailers can send customers things like promotional discounts or educational product videos straight to their device when and where it is relevant to them.

Getting someone to buy your product is all about sending the appropriate message to the appropriate person at the appropriate time. Beacons allow you to connect with the customer at the appropriate time, like never before.
